From design to maintenance through to realization, the landscaper follows the project from start to finish. Whatever the size of the garden, arrangements are always possible, as explained by landscaper Laurent Pinson.Interview by Charlotte Cousin From what surface, can you call on a landscaper? There is really no minimum. Of course, there is more potential over a larger area, but there are also people who want to redevelop small plots. In general, we use landscapers for surfaces from 500 to 2000 m2 but it remains above all a matter of taste and budget. What are the priorities to be defined before landscaping your garden? It depends on the period when we start the project: the season is important since the choice of plants is affected. In addition, there are hundreds of plants, and to be able to choose, it is necessary to have an idea of what one wishes: garden of priest, Mediterranean, rural… The landscape designer therefore seeks to identify the client and build the project with him little by little. You also have to consider your garden over time and ask yourself the question of what you want to integrate into it late: swimming pool, pergola, veranda… Can we be faced with difficulties? Make sure that it grows well on the ground because the soil may have been treated before as is the case during stripping. Vegetation must be able to start on the soil in question because, if it contains an anti-germinative, it will be impossible to regrow anything. It should be checked that there have not been "excavations" carried out which can put us in front of the presence of rubble, tiles or earthenware when planting begins. What are the steps followed with a client in the implementation of a project? We start of course by visiting the places and talking with the individual to find out their needs and desires. The press-book containing the landscaper's achievements is important and can provide ideas for designs. After having decided with him the type of garden desired, we make sketches, we count the number of plants, and we get information from suppliers to establish a budget, to move on to the realization of plans which we then rework with the customer. Once the project is accepted, we follow the concrete realization of the garden and the guarantee in terms of plants. How much does a particular garden cost? The price can change according to the nature of the soil: presence of numerous stones or not and of the material used: manual or tractor… It is difficult to give a precise figure because it is extremely variable according to the types of garden but also the choice of plants : you can, for example, go on shrubs that are 40cm at the level of the plantation but also 120 or 150cm: the price will then be very different. We can only give a price to the lawn: a sodding costs about 2.50 € per m2. A 200m2 plot will thus cost € 500. Laurent Pinson is a landscape entrepreneur.
