Originally, the chair was a privilege reserved for nobles. The common people used the chests or benches to sit. It was not until the Renaissance that the chair entered houses. The medallion chair appears during the reign of Louis XVI (1774-1792). It is a time of rediscovery of Antiquity thanks to excavations carried out in Herculaneum and Pompeii. The Louis XVI style was therefore inspired by Antiquity and advocated a return to classicism. The medallion chair, with an oval back, thus appears under this influence. Today, this stylish chair has not disappeared from our interiors. On the contrary the chair inspires the creators and settles in our interiors with originality. While we will choose a "classic" chair for a romantic interior, the most daring will prefer a "personalized" medallion. Now the medallion features patterns: Marilyn Monroe, view of New York, striped fabrics and even flashy colors, gold or silver ... Finally, for design lovers, Philippe Starck revisits the traditional chair and offers Victoria Ghost, a fully transparent medallion chair real ghost of the original chair.
