Connecting a washing machine

Connecting a washing machine

Bypass bypass…

It is a method which presents all the sealing guarantees thanks to the welded joints. But it is also a bit complex to implement because it requires intervention on an existing installation. Of course, it is better, during fitting-out works, to establish a T-branch using a special fitting (T).

… Or a self-drilling tap?

This second solution is attractive because it is simpler and faster to implement. It only requires that the valve be screwed onto the supply line at the chosen location. However, it may be less durable than the previous one - and the fitting itself costs a lot more. Ultimately, each solution has its advantages: choose according to your equipment and the durability that you want to give to the installation.

Tools and materials

For the stitching:

• Welding equipment
Pliers or spring to bend
Drill and drill
Needle forceps
The faucet
Screws and dowels
Sealing washers
Wall mounting collars

For the self-drilling tap:

• English keys

How to bend?

When fittings cannot be used, a pipe must be bent to form the necessary bend. To do this, start by heating the metal using the flame of a blowtorch to make it more malleable. Then immerse the hot part in cold water (for better handling) and pass the tube in the spring to form it at the desired angle. Know-how © La maison rustique - éditions Flammarion, 2005
